Kiwi Red Will Draw Fans To Creek

THAT cheer you heard from Bondi yesterday was a response to New Zealand's Jonny Reid storming to pole position for today's feature A1GP race at Eastern Creek.

Reid had earlier qualified fourth fastest for the 20-minute sprint race. And in an interesting move to ensure robust spectator support for New Zealand, team owner Colin Giltrap has offered Kiwi nationals a hot deal on admission: free entry by merely showing their passports at the gate.

Team Australia's John Martin was ninth fastest in sprint race qualifying - the green-and-gold's first top-10 grid of the season. But a slow lap in qualifying for the 70-minute feature left the Queenslander an unremarkable 15th, one second behind pole.

"It was a very messy lap, I over-drove a lot," he said. " The car's fast but unfortunately I didn't get the best from the car."

Frenchman Loic Duval will start from pole in the sprint and third in the feature.
